Ellen and Troy East Room

February 1, 2017

I met Ellen and Troy during Brady & Sarah's backyard wedding during my first year of shooting weddings. Just like their friends, Troy and Ellen are down to earth genuine people. It didn't take much convincing for me to be excited about this event. They told me how it would all take place on Queen Street East and the Leslieville neighbourhood (my hood) and I could basically walk to the getting ready house and the venue.

The East Room was a brilliant mix of industrial Toronto and vintage aesthetic. The Ceremony was outside on the rooftop and the mingling and vegan brunch happened inside in a beautiful loft style space. The vibe was excellent and it truly felt like we were celebrating a special day at a friend's house. The vegan food made for one of the best brunches I ever had and was fitting for the Sunday morning wedding. Being surrounded by vintage movie posters, vintage vinyl and record players, old-school leather couches and reclaimed wood furniture were just added bonuses to the already stellar atmosphere.

Ellen and Troy's wedding is just another example of how the city of Toronto has some of the most unique possibilities for weddings, and that when a bride and groom inject their personalities into their wedding day that it truly creates a beautifully sincere  atmosphere for friends and family to come together and share in special moments and memories.

This is what Ellen and Troy had to say about their wedding :

"We wanted to keep our wedding as simple as possible; we also wanted every element to feel like “us.” The wedding industry is such a machine! It's so easy to get caught up in table linens, strobe lights, dresses, etc. We opted for an intimate, laid-back brunch and prioritized organic, local, environmentally-conscious options from the food (delicious!), to the alcohol, to the rings, and the flowers. All of our vendors were local small business owners

If we had the space, we would have invited everyone over to our place. The co-working space we rented was the next best thing; it felt like our apartment...if we were rich and lived in a really cool loft. We wanted to retain the “lived in” feel, so we didn’t bring in a lot of décor. The flowers we did have were sourced from Toronto backyards! We assembled arrangements in mismatched vases. While Troy wore a made-to-measure suit from Indochino, my outfit was also a mismatch creation consisting of a BHLDN top I purchased on Craigslist from another bride (who decided to go with a different look) and a clearance skirt from Ferré Sposa. It ended up costing a couple of hundreds of dollars, versus thousands.

The ceremony was so special. We weren't as nervous as we expected to be reciting our vows. The excitement of walking out together as a married couple is perfectly captured in the photos. We couldn’t be happier with how the photos turned out! - Ellen and Troy"
